During the beta, please keep your current backup running (for example Time Machine) alongside Lifeboat. Lifeboat checks its own backups with restore probes, but a second, independent backup is good practice anyway. Feedback to lifeboat@farazfarid.com is very welcome.

System requirements

  • macOS 26 or later.
  • Full Disk Access for Lifeboat (the setup explains why and opens System Settings).
  • A destination: a disk, a NAS with SMB, or S3-compatible cloud storage (network and cloud need Pro after the trial).

Install

  1. Open the .dmg and drag Lifeboat into Applications.
  2. Start Lifeboat. The setup asks for a destination, creates a password, gives you an emergency sheet (PDF) and asks for Full Disk Access.
  3. The first backup starts right away, the first restore probe follows when it is done.
  4. All features are free for 14 days. After that Lifeboat stays free for 1 disk. To unlock Pro, paste the license key from your receipt email into Settings › License. One key works on 2 Macs.

Updates arrive through “Check for Updates…” in the Lifeboat menu. Beta versions come first to Macs with “Get beta versions” turned on in Settings › General.

Öffentliche Beta

Lass während der Beta bitte dein bisheriges Backup weiterlaufen (etwa Time Machine). Lifeboat prüft seine Backups mit Wiederherstellungs-Proben, ein zweites, unabhängiges Backup ist trotzdem gute Praxis.

Systemvoraussetzungen

  • Festplattenvollzugriff für Lifeboat (die Einrichtung erklärt warum und öffnet die Systemeinstellungen).
  • Ein Ziel: eine Platte, ein NAS mit SMB oder S3-kompatibler Cloud-Speicher (Netz und Cloud brauchen nach der Testzeit Pro).

Installieren

  1. Die .dmg öffnen und Lifeboat in „Programme“ ziehen.
  2. Lifeboat starten. Die Einrichtung fragt nach dem Ziel, erzeugt ein Passwort, gibt dir ein Notfall-Blatt (PDF) und bittet um den Festplattenvollzugriff.
  3. Das erste Backup startet sofort, die erste Wiederherstellungs-Probe folgt, wenn es fertig ist.
  4. 14 Tage ist alles frei. Danach bleibt Lifeboat kostenlos für 1 Platte. Für Pro fügst du den Lizenzschlüssel aus der Kaufbestätigung unter Einstellungen › Lizenz ein. Ein Schlüssel gilt für 2 Macs.
